2023 NNJSGNA Serving Officers:
Susan Overhoff MSN BSN RN CGRN- President
Susan has earned her BSN and MSN Degrees from St. Peter University in Jersey City, N.J. She has been a nurse for 30+ years and has an extensive background in medical-surgical, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and gastroenterology. She is a major resource person at St. Joseph Medical Center in both Paterson and Wayne. She is an active member of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates as well as holding certification with ABCGN. Susan has shared her knowledge with presentations at the National and Regional levels. She will be presenting once again at our 2022 National to be held in Utah! Susan has served as secretary of our region in the past two years. And now she is honored to serve as our president-elect this year!
Molly Schulenberg BSN RN CGRN- President-Elect
Molly has gathered her nursing experience from the Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston NJ where she started from ‘new’ nurse and now can speak from experience in Telemetry, Medical Surgical nursing and currently since 2019 in GI/Endoscopy. She has expressed enthusiasm in joining the NNJSGNA Chapter and now participating in the steering team as President Elect 2023-2024. She first attended the organization of GI nurses invited by her fellow peers in her GI unit. Molly recently got to experience the GI Nursing inspiration and encouragement at the 2022 Salt Lake City SGNA National Conference along with other NNJSGNA team members. And now, she accepts this nomination where she will have the opportunity to work along peers across institutions in educational and SGNA organizational activities. Molly’s professional practice and experience in community involvement contributes to the NNJSGNA chapter appointment with new energy. Molly’s enthusiasm and professional care contribute with new energy to integrate our chapter members aiming at the goals and practice supporting our specialty in the world of GI/Endoscopy.
Emma Gimmel BSN CGRN RN- Secretary (re-elect)
Emma can speak to over 24 years in Endoscopy from a staff nurse to leadership as Manager and DON. Her most recent leadership role is serving as Director of Nursing at Manhattan Endoscopy Center. Since 2011, Emma has continued to work hands-on as a per diem on-call Endoscopy and PACU staff nurse at Bayonne Medical Center. Emma started her nursing profession at Jersey City Medical Center in the Post-Surgical Orthopedic Unit from where she quickly became a preceptor and subsequently transferred to worked in SICU. Emma followed a lateral move to the ICU at Morristown Medical Center where eventually transferred to Interventional Radiology and followed to Endoscopy where she worked in both in-hospital and the ambulatory settings. Her role as chair of the Practice council. and participation in other committees in the Shared Governance prepared her to take a successful leadership path. Emma has been involved in Quality Improvement and Infection prevention and focuses in Patient and Client Satisfaction. Up to now, Emma has always been a forward thinker starting with nursing school where she explored her interests in technology skills by taking computer classes when the questions was "Why are you taking computer courses if you are going to be a nurse?". Since then Emma regularly attends a variety of conferences to maintain current in her profession. Emma is no stranger to volunteer work as a translator in community health, medical missionary trips, and peer support. As secretary for our region, she hopes to continue sharing and gaining more experience with her fellow peers in support of the vision of SGNA's best nursing practice.
Kimberly Venturella BSN RN CGRN - Treasurer
Kimberly began her nursing career in 1995 when she graduated from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing. She completed her BSN through the University of Phoenix and ever so slowly on a master's degree. She has been in GI nursing since 2002, joined SGNA in 2003, certified in 2006, and maintained her certification ever since. She has worked in Mountainside Hospital, Morristown Medical Center, and is currently managing the Endoscopy Department at Englewood Hospital. SGNA has been her passion alongside the field of GI Nursing. She has developed policies and procedures, training materials, and educational programs for her units using SGNA resources. She's given back by serving on committees and boards both regionally and nationally. She enjoys her knowledge and has presented both locally and nationally. She's published in the current volume of GI Nursing Core Curriculum as a contributor in the esophageal chapter. Welcome back Kimberly as our newly appointed Treasurer!
Ivonne Carvajal BSN RN CGRN- Immediate Past President
Ivonne has been a Registered Nurse at Morristown Medical Center since 1995. She worked in the PACU until 2000 & began her career in Endoscopy at the Digestive Center where she remained full-time in the Ambulatory Endoscopy Center. Ivonne has been involved in her department's QI and Performance Improvement Audits in the area of Infection Control/HLD. She has also added to her specialty as an esophageal manometry nurse. She is a Magnet Champion and is a preceptor. She graduated from Rutgers' College of Nursing in 1995 and maintains her CGRN. Despite the occurrence and challenges of the Covid-19 Pandemic, as our 2020 President, she continued to actively communicate with the officers and members the best she can! She was active in updating NNJ activities in the SGNA Communities Calendar and Facebook as well as the creative postcards! Ivonne is honored to serve as our 2022 NNJ President!
